The social and environmental impacts of foreign development finance in the western Amazon

More than 400 hydroelectric dams are currently planned for the Amazon basin and its headwaters, with more than 70 of them projected for Peru and up to 30 for the River Maranon alone. David’s reporting will investigate what the plans for the River Maranon consist of and how far advanced they are, what the potential social and environmental impacts are, what local people and communities know and feel about the dams, and how the dams are being, or will be, financed.
