Mongabay welcomes a content strategist/editor

Mongabay is rapidly growing: in the past year and a half, we launched a Spanish-language news service for Latin America; added correspondents in nearly 20 countries, redesigned the web site, tripled the volume of features we’re producing, and doubled our operating budget. We’re increasingly finding that we’re not able to properly showcase all the great content we’re producing. Accordingly, we are pleased to announce that Erik Hoffner has joined our team as Editor and Content Strategist.

erik_hoffner_round_full_colorErik started his career as an environmental journalist in 2005, producing a range of stories for The Guardian, National Geographic News Watch, Sierra, OnEarth, Earth Island Journal, Yale Environment 360, Grist, Ecowatch, World Ark, Orion, and Pacific Standard, among numerous others. You can read some of his articles at his web site.

Erik has also served as Outreach Coordinator for Orion magazine, where he acted as a spokesperson and managed the magazine’s email outreach and social media accounts, broadening the reach of the publication’s stories. He also served as the Orion Grassroots Network coordinator, a position in which he acquired and managed grants for a comprehensive program that supported and promoted the work of over 1,000 conservation groups.

Before joining Mongabay, he helped found and served on the board of Co-op Power, a member-owned energy cooperative serving New England which is a national model for community ownership of renewable energy businesses like Northeast Biodiesel.

As Editor and Content Strategist, Erik will manage various Mongabay reporting projects, including recruiting journalists, fielding pitches, assigning stories, and editing and producing stories. He will also oversee the growth marketing efforts of Mongabay, helping us expand our audience and impact.
