New Reporting Opportunity – Great Ape Crisis

Mongabay is excited to announce our new Great Ape Crisis Mongabay Reporting Network (MRN), which aims to inform the world about escalating threats to the world’s great apes.

Great apes are balanced on the knife-edge of extinction. Mountain gorillas, western and eastern lowland gorillas, and Sumatran and Bornean orangutans are all now listed as Critically Endangered; chimpanzees and bonobos are Endangered. The article series, to be published in the last quarter of 2016 and first quarter of 2017, will bring public attention to the issues causing this situation.

Articles produced under this MRN will focus on the following topics: wildlife trade, wildlife trade solutions, survival plans, industrial agriculture, logging, energy development or human-great ape conflicts. However, Mongabay is open to hearing your great ape pitch, even if it falls outside the specific topics listed here.
