LILLIAN HOWELL

lillian-howellLillie is currently finishing a degree in Environment and Sustainability at The University of the South with an interest in sustainable agriculture, waste management, and freshwater systems. Her love for the environment stems from outdoor trips she took during high school to the Pacific Northwest, Costa Rica, and Alaska. She has since returned to work for the same outdoor company, leading trips for students in Northern California. Through the program WWOOF, she has worked on organic farms in Aix-en-Provence, France and in Maine, allowing her to compare organic farming practices both domestically and abroad. During a research fellowship on the Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy to study sustainable decision-making, she became interested in international environmental issues, leading her to study forest management in the developing world. As she begins her internship with Mongabay in January 2017, she hopes to focus on how we spread environmental ideas and information to the general public to encourage a greater interest in conservation and sustainable management.
