Background

In January, a project to raise and invest $300 million in conservation and reforestation was launched. In its first phase, the African Forest Carbon Catalyst will seek already-existing projects with the potential to scale up and offer support, with, for instance developing a business plan for projects, or research or securing land rights, or help approaching investors for the money needed for conservation.

Our interests

We’re looking for story ideas profiling forest conservation or reforestation efforts that might fit the bill – projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, and Ethiopia are particularly welcome.

Submitting your pitch

Please submit pitches via the pitch form on Mongabay’s Africa reporting opportunities page. Your pitch should include a brief summary of the forest conservation project you’d like to profile; some background (showing you’ve looked into it enough to scent its potential to meet the AFCC’s criteria to grow; and a list of sources you would speak to for the story.
