Mongabay is pleased to announce that Kristin Rechberger has joined its board of directors. She has spent her career supporting those who defend nature, and is now CEO of Dynamic Planet, a firm that helps advance and invest in markets that restore nature.
“I believe environmental journalism is critical to an informed global public,” Rechberger said. “Leaders of a community, in government, and in business need to understand the role the environment plays to understand the costs and benefits of every decision. Because when nature prospers, our economies, jobs, health, and societies flourish. When nature is under assault, so are we,” she added.
Mongabay’s Board President, B. Holt Thrasher, noted the importance of her range of experience when reacting to the news. “We are excited to have Kristin join our board as she brings a wealth of experience from her work in designing and organizing viable economic partnerships for global environmental conservation solutions,” he said.
Rhett A. Butler, Mongabay’s Founder and CEO, agreed, saying that “Kristin has incredible depth of knowledge on sustainability, including strong experience and understanding of how to drive conservation outcomes through innovative business models and financing, leadership engagement, and partnerships. I’m excited to have her on Mongabay’s board as we continue to expand our audience, influence, and impact.”
Under her leadership, Dynamic Planet’s portfolio has grown to include marine and terrestrial protected areas, community conservancies that are developing conservation markets, public and private sector partners on the forefront of nature-based solutions for the climate, as well as funds that are focused on growing natural capital. Before founding the firm in 2012, Kristin was Senior Vice President of Global Programs and Partnerships at the National Geographic Society. She was a 1995 Luce Scholar, a 2009 Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and is a member of both the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Sustainable Tourism.
