Our reporting was cited or republished by outlets ranging from Associated Press to Reuters, Agence France-Presse, the Washington Post, and the journal Nature, among others during the last quarter.
A November 2022 investigation Mongabay published about a Chinese company’s rampant and illegal shark finning operation led to global coverage in outlets including Forbes, led regulators to ban the gear which that fleet used, and spurred the U.S. Treasury to sanction the company. Also in November, a big feature in the Associated Press about oil drilling in the Colombian Amazon relied on a collaborative investigation by Mongabay-Latam and Cuestión Pública, while our coverage of deforestation in Brazil was quoted in a feature in The Hill that was republished by 40+ Fox News affiliates, and the news of Mongabay’s founder winning the Heinz Award for the Environment garnered a feature in The Straits Times.
Our reports were also discussed on the airwaves: editor Karla Mendes appeared again on the Al Jazeera program “The Stream” for a second time to discuss the momentous election results in Brazil. Mongabay regularly offers its writers and editors for interviews and speaking engagements like this, learn more and see a list of staff available for interviews here.
Numerous media outlets also chose to republish Mongabay reports, like one about the crash of snow crab populations in the Bering Sea that later appeared in the Tacoma News Tribune and three other McClatchy-owned U.S. newspapers, including the Kansas City Star and Miami Herald.
Other Mongabay articles were republished in outlets ranging from Quartz to Eco-Business and Civil Eats – we encourage fellow media outlets to republish Mongabay features, and one can review our Creative Commons policies and guidelines here.
