New Reporting Opportunity – Conservation Effectiveness in Madagascar

Mongabay is excited to announce a new special reporting project that aims to explore the effectiveness of conservation spending and interventions in Madagascar. The project, housed under our Mongabay Reporting Network (MRN) program, is open to journalists with strong analytical skills, story-telling abilities, and experience in doing deep investigative reporting on complex issues.

This project coincides with a sharp increase in tourism and overseas development aid for conservation in Madagascar, a top biodiversity hotspot that has been heavily impacted by habitat destruction and degradation in recent decades. We’re interested in learning how past conservation funds were used and how effective that spending was in Madagascar as well as the prospects for conservation in the country going forward.

We expect to engage one or two journalists to do an extended series of stories for this project. Travel grants for reporting are available.
