Maria Ángeles Salazar Rustarazo is a young translator and interpreter from Spain. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Translation and Interpreting in 2011. She studied in Barcelona for four years with an exchange semester in Sheffield, United Kingdom. During the four years of the degree, she studied translation and interpreting from English into Spanish and she also took courses of French, Italian and Chinese. After completing her undergraduate degree she took a year off studies and worked as an English teacher in Spain, while getting experience translating from English, French and Italian into Spanish. She also started studying Polish as she is always willing to learn more about other cultures and languages. In the year 2012, she started a postgraduate course to obtain her MSc in Conference Interpreting and Translation in Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh). There she worked from English into Spanish and from Spanish into English, and in some occasions she also had the chance to work from French into Spanish. She finished her MSc with the completion of her dissertation “Close cultures, different strategies. A study of the strategies applied in the translation of The Hunger Games world in its Spanish and Catalan versions”, in which she compared the terminology applied by the author of the trilogy to several translations focusing on the Spanish and Catalan ones. In July 2013, willing to gain some relevant work experience and specialise in a field she loved, she contacted Mongabay to offer her help as a translator. This experience has allowed her to grow as a translator and to enlarge her knowledge about biology, science and the environment in general. At the moment, she combines her job as an English teacher with her contributions to Mongabay and another non-profit organisation, streetfootballworld, which promotes the integration of underprivileged young people in the society through sport.

 

Maria Ángeles Salazar Rustarazo es una joven traductora e intérprete de España. Consiguió su licenciatura en Traducción e Interpretación en 2011. Estudió en Barcelona durante cuatro años y completó un semestre de intercambio en Sheffield, Reino Unido. Durante los cuatro años de su carrera, estudió traducción e interpretación del inglés al español y también llevó a cabo cursos de francés, italiano y chino. Tras completar su licenciatura se tomó un año de descanso en los estudios y trabajó como profesora de inglés en España mientras obtenía experiencia traduciendo del inglés, el francés y el italiano al español. Además, empezó a estudiar polaco puesto que siempre está dispuesta a aprender más sobre otras culturas e idiomas. En el año 2012, empezó un curso de posgrado para obtener el Máster en Interpretación de Conferencias y Traducción en la universidad Heriot-Watt (Edimburgo). Allí trabajó del inglés al español y del español al inglés, y en ciertas ocasiones también tuvo la oportunidad de trabajar del francés al español. Finalizó su máster tras completar su tesina “Culturas cercanas, estrategias diferentes. Un estudio de las estrategias aplicadas en la traducción del mundo de Los Juegos del Hambre en su versión al español y al catalán”, en la que comparó la terminología aplicada por la autora de la trilogía en varios idiomas, centrándose en las versiones española y catalana. En julio de 2013, deseosa de conseguir experiencia profesional y de especializarse en un ámbito que le encanta, contactó con Mongabay para ofrecer su ayuda como traductora. Esta experiencia le ha permitido crecer como traductora y ampliar sus conocimientos sobre biología, ciencia y el medioambiente en general. En la actualidad, combina su trabajo como profesora de inglés con sus contribuciones en Mongabay y otra organización sin ánimo de lucro, streetfootballworld, que fomenta la integración de jóvenes desfavorecidos en la sociedad a través del deporte.
