Mongabay.org, the non-profit arm of Mongabay, was formed in 2012 to facilitate the development of new education and journalism initiatives and leverage its existing network, traffic, and reputation. Mongabay.org aims to raise awareness about social and environmental issues relating to forests and other ecosystems.

WHAT DOES THE BOOKKEEPER DO?

Mongabay is seeking a full-time Bookkeeper who is based in India. The Bookkeeper, working with the Financial Controller, will help support the operation of Mongabay’s financial processes. Mongabay has complex program offerings and diverse funding sources, including federal, international, individual, and foundation funding. This person will report directly to both the Financial Controller and Mongabay India Program Manager.

This individual’s key responsibilities will include:

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Enter cash receipts
  • Enter accounts payables bills
  • Reconcile bank and investment accounts
  • Expense documentation processing
  • Assist in electronic documentation storage and retention
  • Assist in special projects, as needed

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to Mongabay’s mission
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in effectively communicating financial data
  • Solid bookkeeping experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in Intacct or equivalent account software
  • Bachelors or Masters in Accounting (Masters preferred)
  • Must be based in India

COMPENSATION

Mongabay aims to offer competitive pay rates that will attract, retain, and motivate our full-time contractors. You are encouraged to submit a pay range when applying.
