Mongabay India was awarded the 13th Earth Care Award, in the Communicator for Climate Action category, acknowledging its rigorous, independent environmental journalism in English and Hindi.
Selected by a jury of prominent climate and sustainability experts, Mongabay India was recognized for its consistent record of independent environmental journalism and its ability to translate complex ecological and policy issues into clear storytelling across formats and languages.
The award cited Mongabay India’s body of work in climate and environmental reporting across India, spanning themes such as conservation, climate change, and ecosystem transitions, and its ability to reach those beyond traditional journalism readerships. Highlighting Mongabay India’s role in bringing conservation frontlines to diverse audience, it also was noted that “through open-access articles, features, podcasts, and videos, Mongabay India makes environmental science accessible, amplifies the voices of communities most affected by ecological change, and shows a consistent record of journalism that translates into real-world impact.”
The 13th Earth Care Awards ceremony was held in Mumbai in May 2026 as part of their annual program, which has celebrated environmental leadership since 2008. Mongabay India’s Kartik Chandramouli, Saumitra Shinde, and Gopi Warrier accepted the honor on behalf of the larger team in the newly introduced Communicator for Climate Action category.

The Earth Care Award underscored Mongabay India’s role in strengthening independent environmental journalism in India and making climate science and conservation issues more comprehensive to a broad public audience.
