    In January 2018, Mongabay India was launched to reach an Indian audience with information about the state of India’s environment. Mongabay-India is a conservation and environment news and features service that aims to bring high quality, original reports from nature’s frontline in India.

    Mongabay India’s primary topics of news coverage are India’s energy transitions, climate, forests and water, all reported from a mainstream biodiversity perspective. With a goal to examine India’s development through the prism of environment and conservation, Mongabay-India organizes special reporting projects to dive deep into specific themes.

    WHAT DOES THE VIDEO PRODUCTION COORDINATOR DO?

    Online video news provides a powerful and popular way of covering compelling stories and reaching new audiences. We’re hiring a Video Production Coordinator to scale up and systematize Mongabay-India’s video program. The Coordinator will support the production and publication of original content sourced from a pan-India network of video contributors inspired by conservation and environmental science. The Video Production Coordinator will report to the Senior Digital Editor.

    KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    50% of time spent on video ideation, production (scripting, editing) and distribution; 

    • work with the video team to research and source video footage primarily from stock footage and archival libraries but also from field producers;
    • write scripts and edit footage into short (1-5 minute) videos for social media;
    • support posting on Mongabay’s video channels, including drafting required metadata and producing thumbnails;

    20% of time spent coordinating with contributors, Mongabay editors, and third parties

    • support the Senior Digital Editor with the logistics of video assignments;
    • track delivery of visual assets to and from third parties;
    • provide other support as needed to ensure content meets Mongabay’s high standards of professionalism, consistency, authenticity, and reliability;

    20% of time spent organising visual assets (videos, photos, graphics etc.) in a content database and documenting footage rights

    • organise files, including video clips, visual assets, and templates, by creating and/or maintaining a content database;
    • manage rights clearance between Mongabay and third parties;

    10% refining the editorial processes and building new strategies with visual storytelling teammates. 

    • support editorial planning to reach established goals in the set timeline;
    • collect data on the impacts of stories, including examples of engagement and republication for use in grant reports;

    EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

      • Two to five years of video production experience, particularly with video editing
      • Advanced understanding of video production and workflow
      • Fluent English written and verbal communication skills
      • Experience creating news and content for social media
      • Expertise with Adobe Premiere and an understanding of YouTube and social media platforms are essential.
      • Basic to moderate Adobe After Effects skills are a plus.
      • Familiar with Microsoft Office, WordPress (or similar), Google Drive and Asana (or similar)
      • Film/camera handling experience is a plus but not required
      • Ability to work within deadlines and collaborate with a remote team
      • Reliable access to high-speed Internet is required
      • Must be willing to commit to a full-time role and be available during regular business hours

    COMPENSATION & LOCATION

    The position must also be located in India, as the team is spread across the country. However, the ability to coordinate with colleagues working in a diversity of time zones is strongly preferred.
