About

Gerald “Gerry” Flynn has been based in Southeast Asia since 2017, reporting largely from Cambodia on the intersection between human rights, ecosystems and natural resource governance. He was a Rainforest Investigations Network fellow with the Pulitzer Center between 2022 and 2023 where he investigated illegal logging networks across Cambodia, with a focus on the Cardamom Mountains. Flynn joined Mongabay in 2023 following his fellowship and continued to investigate illegal logging, illegal fishing, illegal mining and land grabs across Cambodia until he was denied entry and permanently banned from the country in retaliation for his work. He is now based in Thailand with his two cats and has expanded the scope of his reporting to cover the Mekong region more broadly.
