Mongabay Africa was launched in 2023 to scale up original multilingual reporting in English and French on issues relevant to the conservation of Africa’s wildlife and their habitats, development pressures and the activities of natural resource industries, and the impacts of climate change on ecosystems and communities across the continent. The bureau’s strategic direction is grounded in solutions journalism, which aims to provide a more accurate and balanced portrayal of Africa’s critical environmental issues — countering the often-negative portrayal of Africa in Western media — and position itself as a credible source for conservation-related news in the region.
