Mongabay has selected reporter, writer and video producer Abhishyant Kidangoor as its 2022 Sue Palminteri Wildtech Reporting Fellow.
“I am absolutely thrilled and honored to be part of a fellowship named after Sue Palminteri, whose work as a WildTech journalist has been an inspiration,” Abhishyant says. “Wildlife conservation has been a huge part of my childhood, and I look forward to combining that personal interest with my journalistic skills to write about how technology is aiding and reshaping conservation efforts around the world.”
Following his start in journalism in 2014 via television news in New Dehli, Abhishyant has focused on producing stories about climate change, the environment, and biodiversity in South Asia. During this career, he has worked with TIME in New York and Hong Kong, where he produced news and feature videos while also writing stories on politics, health and climate change in India.
In recent years, Abhishyant has covered the political unrest in Hong Kong in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on rural India and global vaccine inequality—all stories that strongly shaped his perspective and pushed him to explore new approaches to storytelling.
Abhishyant will now bring his expertise and interest in the intersection of climate change, health and technology to enhance independent journalism at Mongabay as the third Sue Palminteri Wildtech Reporting Fellow.
Outside of writing for Mongabay, Abhishyant is a fan of history and historical fiction and is always on the lookout for new hiking trails.

About the Sue Palminteri Wildtech Reporting Fellowship
The WildTech Reporting Fellowship is named after conservation biologist and Mongabay editor Sue Palminteri, who died suddenly in 2019. It honors her interest in conservation, technology, and journalism by providing opportunities for students and new journalists to explore how technology helps scientists and conservationists protect threatened species and habitats.
